Classic Blackjack Rules

Our Five-Hand Blackjack Classic game is based on Atlantic City and Las Vegas multiple deck casinos rules. There are many other variations of blackjack but this is the game that we are using now on Blackjack-Unlimited.com as a default, although others are available and more will be added later.

The goal of Blackjack is to beat the dealer's hand by getting a higher score than he does without going over 21. For example, if you get a 20 and the dealer gets a 19 then you win.

Face cards are worth 10. Aces are worth 1 or 11, whichever makes a better hand. All other cards are worth their numerical value, 2-9.

Each player starts with two cards which are visible but one of the dealer's cards is hidden until the end.

To Hit is to ask for another card. To Stand is to hold your total and end your turn.

If player goes over 21 he busts and the dealer wins regardless of the dealer's hand.

If player is dealt 21 from the start (Ace & 10 for example), then he has a blackjack.

Blackjack means the player wins 1.5 times the amount of his bet. The only time a player can receive a blackjack and not get paid immediately is if the dealer also has a blackjack. In this case, it's called a push and no one gets paid.

The dealer must hit until his cards total 17 or higher. There are 2 variations for this rule.

1. Dealer Stands on Soft 17 -- The dealer stands on 17 or better even with an ace in the hand (this is what we have in Classic Blackjack)
2. Dealer Hits on Soft 17 -- This rule requires the dealer to draw another card if he’s holding a soft 17 but will stand on a hard 17.

A soft 17 means it includes an Ace (1 or 11 value). A hard 17 means that no Ace is included.

A Split can be done when you have two of the same card and the pair is split into two hands. Splitting also doubles the bet because each new hand is worth the original bet. There are two variations for Splitting:
1. You can only split on the first move or you may split a hand created by split (in our Classical Blackjack you can only split original hand)
2. When splitting Aces some time dealer only deal one card to each new hand, in other – no limit (in our Classical Blackjack – no limit)

Doubling is like a hit, only the bet is doubled and you only get one more card. Double is to be permitted or not permitted to different players' modes. When permitted there are three variations of Doubling:
1. Whether Doubling permitted after Splitting cards (not permitted in our Classic Blackjack)
2. Can player Double after more than 2 cards on hand (in Classic Blackjack Doubling permitted only when player has 2 cards)
3. Player may double on any hand or Doubling restricted only to 9-10-11 hands (in Classical Blackjack Doubling is not restricted).

Insurance. If the dealer's up card is an ace, players are offered to buy insurance. This is a side bet on whether the dealer has a ten in the hole. If player makes this side bet and dealer has the ten or face card opened, then player who bought insurance is paid 2 to 1. Player then loses his original bet but wins the insurance bet, which works out to being a push of players' original bet.

If players reject buying insurance then the game continues in its usual mode. Insurance is to be bought for each hand player plays separately.

Push. When the player and the dealer have the same total and the player's bet is returned. This also is the same for both the player and dealer having blackjack.

Surrender is an optional rule. There are 2 surrender types:
1. Early surrender - player can early surrender before the dealer checks for blackjack after he has an ace as a first card.
2. Late surrender - the player can surrender after seeing the dealer's hole card (one that was face down when dealt).

When a player surrenders he retains HALF of his bet.

In Classical Blackjack Surrender is not offered.

Order to serving cards. In Classical Blackjack the first card is dealt to player at the far right and is face up. Then the first card is dealt to next player's hand, et cetera, until one card served to every player's hand.
Dealer then deals himself a card face up. The second card is dealt to player at the far right and is face up. Then the first card is dealt to next player's hand, et cetera, until one card served to every player's hand.

Dealer then deals himself his second card face down.

The player is offered to Hit or Stay for each of his hands starting from the right one. If more than one card is to be Hit, then each hand is completed before moving to the next hand. After all player's hands are completed the second dealer's card (that was facedown) is turned to be face up.
If the dealer needs to Hit he is dealt cards one by one as per the general rules.
